Coursework:
Ideas for
my documentary:
Ø
true crime on a serial
killer – idea I went with
Ø mind behind a killer
Ø the good side of fame
vs. the bad side
Ø life of a psychopath
Ø a killer that never got
caught
True
crime on a serial killer – poster ideas
Ø the face of the killer and a dark background
– shows the dark past they have
Ø the victims on the poster but half
faded – shows that their memory is fading
Ø masthead at the top of the poster
Ø using red tones – imply danger,
anger, blood
Ø the killer’s face the main image on
the poster
Ø keep it simple – no need to make it
complicated for viewers
Ø limit text on poster – designed for
15-25 year olds so no need to have loads of words on the poster
Statement of Intent:
Media
representation:
My
documentary will be about a serial killer who committed his crimes in cold
blood and has to face the courts, ultimately getting sentenced to prison. It
would show an insight into what happens in the courts as well as follow the
families of the victims, interviewing them and getting a feel for what they go
through during the sentencing of the killer. The title will be ‘The One Who
Took It All’. I will ensure that it complies with the rules that are set by the
ASA. My posters will not contain any content that can cause serious offence or
concern to any audience, it will not encourage anti-social or violent behaviour,
or cause distress to the audience. It would be shown past watershed (9pm) to limit
the exposure it has on children as it is not a child’s show and could cause them
distress.
I intend on
portraying two different sides to the story through this documentary, I will
show the working of the case and murders as well as the families that lost
their loved ones. This is to give the documentary a good representation there for
the criminal system as the criminal would be convicted and a bad representation
on the murderer as obviously, it is a bad thing to kill people.
To appeal to
my intended target audience, I will promote it on social media as that has my
target audience of 15–25-year-olds. I believe that using social media will be
the best way to promote the documentary as most people in my primary target
audience use social media on a daily basis. It will also be for those who like
true crime documentaries. This will appeal to them as the victims would be around
the same age as them – between 17-21.
